Deana Kalcich English 213 Professor Marsden December 4, 2006 Child of…
Me? I’m a child of mountains, highways, and late nights at shabby diners Bonfires and pond swimming have ruled my social life And I have drifted through the halls of my high school with ease.
My nights have been spent in darkly light auditoriums Sweating behind promptbooks and lighting boards Handing out bottles of water, hair bands, and safety pins.
My mornings have been characterized by dizziness and caffeine crashes Sleep deprivation has ruled my life Rising every Saturday morning at 4:30 to ride on a freezing bus Just to listen to teenagers spout about politics and social injustices.
I am a motherless child, with seasonal friends everywhere I go I live my life for me and those people who have never left I am a child who does not want to grow up I am a child who has grown up fast I’m made of everything and everyone What then can I really say? I’m just me.
